The clock has 12 mechanisms round the base connected to
plywood 'tinkerers' up the tower, working on the numbers. Visitors can
operate individual mechanisms and tinkerers by turning knobs which
project through the glass enclosed base.
On the hour, the numbers light up and all the figures and
mechanisms are driven by motors. The numbers then swing out to form a
dial and the gong at the top strikes. The numbers then return,
wrapped around the column again.
