MUSEUM COLLECTING BOXES  1
I like making collecting boxes for museums. They have a simple, practical function. They get placed in interesting, prominent locations. There’s always a wealth of subject matter to base the idea on.
They often don’t need any grant, paying for themselves out of their takings.

THE GHOST OF GUNNERSBURY PARK 1984
As you approach, the leg of the costume kicks forward and the coins in the chest rattle. When you put some money in the chest, one arm of the costume rises and the hat lifts – an invisible gesture of thanks.

TULLIE HOUSE, CARLISLE
1990
Two collecting boxes, the roman fund and the celtic fund. Insert a coin in the celtic fund and the celt smiles and the roman looks cross (using LEDs embedded beneath the surface of the fibreglass). Insert a coin in the roman fund and the expressions reverse.
