THE SCIENCE MUSEUM COLLECTING BOXES 1987
A small donation was enough to pay for the museums
entire security, cleaning, workshop or curatorial staff for a few seconds. Insert a
donation and the figure would work for the appropriate length of time. All the
characters are portraits of real employees, though only Peggy was a good likeness. At the
time, they were regarded with great suspicion by the museum staff as they were was one of
the first manifestations of a new director's regime. The technician who had spent years
restoring the stock exchange clock just could not bare to see it in a showcase with a
'cardboard' figure so he hid the clock the day before it was to be installed. (These boxes
were only in use for 18 months or so because compulsory entry charges were introduced in
1988).
