This is a terrible photo but the actual thing is interesting. I drew scenes in all the
windows before varnishing it.

MEDIEVAL CHEST, 1982
By this time I had started playing with steel. Locks are quite easy to make, I'm surprised
more craftsmen don't handmake them, particularly because a large lock feels so good to
turn. I made this for my sister, who was living in Brixton at the time and kept being
burgled. The handle on the side conceals a secret compartment for storing cash. The handle
on the other side conceals a microswitch. Unless the handle is raised, a small explosive
charge is ignited inside the lock when the key is turned, to scare any potential
burglar.  |
