EARLY FURNITURE
I left university keen to use my hands but with no practical skills. Furniture seemed relatively easy and
didn't require too many tools. I had no workshop at the time and made things out of the back of my van
or in my parents' back garden

Looks rather clumsy now, but at the time I was proud of it. My sister still uses it.

The ex-wife of a friend had moved to Spain but couldn't find any furniture she liked in the local shops. So I spent a couple of months making Habitat-like pieces and trying unsuccessfully to learn a bit of spanish

PACKING CRATE FURNITURE,  1974
I was living in central London and furnished my flat from the local skips, particularly the chinatown packing crates. The wood was quite rough and splintery so most of it wasn't that practical. The teachest chair was comfortable and I still have a packing crate bathroom cupboard we use to keep medicines.
